Downtown Theater
Graduate Design Studio IV
Spring 2005

This project was a programmatic planning exercise. This was the first project where we were asked to design a building with a very complex program. We were asked to deal with a complex set of programmatic elements on a relatively small, urban site. We also focused on acoustics for the design of the house space. The walls and the ceiling of the house were acoustically designed. The final focus of the project was for us to try to create a memorable space. A theater is a destination. The lobby and the house should be memorable. I attempted, through the use of color and vertical elements, to unify the façade, lobby, stairs, and house of my theater to create an experience that no one would forget.
