Seaside Beach Pavillion
Graduate Design Studio II
Spring 2004 For this project, we were asked to design a beach pavilion in Seaside, Florida in the manner of an architect of our choice. I chose Renzo Piano. These pavilions are not only bridges over the dunes, but also termini for the streets and landmarks for residents and guests. Piano was a challenging architect of choice. The project required us not to mimic the architect, but try to understand them and what they might do. I focused on Piano’s interests in light, transparency, and materiality. I attempted to create a pavilion that was both a curious object and spatially ambiguous. |
