Downtown Apartments
Graduate Design Studio V
Fall 2005

For this project, our class did an extensive study of downtown Baton Rouge to understand the city and narrow down an area of possible sites. We were then asked to design an apartment building module. This module consisted of various types of apartments (1 bedroom, 2 bedroom, loft) and the required amount of parking for that module. My module consisted of 2 2-bedroom units, 2 1-bedroom units, and 1 loft unit and 10 parking spaces as prescribed by code. We then had to examine how these modules could be used on various sites and chose one of those sites to more fully design for. My site was near the interstate; I focused my design on the building being this visual mediator between the urban condition of the interstate and the suburban condition of the surrounding area.
